9th & 10th Moharram

"O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may learn self restraint" - Sûrah al Baqarah 2-183.

10th Of Moharram is a day of great significance. On this day several important events took place in our Islamic history.

Prophet Musa (A.S) and his nation were given liberation from Firaoun (Pharoah)
After the azaab (rain storm) on Prophet Noah (A.S)’s nation his boat was placed safely on mountain top
Prophet Yunus (A.S)’s repentance was accepted and Allah brought him out of the whale’ stomach
Prophet Adam (A.S)’s repentance of disobeying Allah in Jannah was accepted
Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) was born
Prophet Yusuf (A.S) was rescued by travelers who pulled him out of the well where his brothers had thrown him
Prophet Yaqub (A.S)’s blindness was cured
Prophet Isa (A.S) was born and was raised to heaven on this day

Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) said that fasting on 10th of Moharram will wash away sins that were committed the previous year. (Sahih Muslim, Ibn Majah)
Prophet Mohammad used to fast on 10th of Moharram but people asked him that Yahoudee (Jews) fast one day will we not resemble their practice? Al-Ameen agreed that it would,so he advised that from the next year onwards fasting would be for 9th and 10th. Before that next year Our Beloved Rasool Sallalahu alaihi wassalam passed away. There fore it is better if we fast both the days

If someone is very ill and cannot fast let him not be depressed as Aaisha radhiAllaahu 'anha said, “Verily fever sheds sins like a tree sheds leaves.” He can pray as much as he can as it is a great chance to ask for forgiveness.

“Oh ALLAH, curb me from what You have forbidden and guide me to what You have permitted, and make me independent of all others.”
Ameen

O ye who believe! Let not your riches or your children divert you from the remembrance of God. If any act thus, the loss is their own.- Surah Al Munafiqun (The Hypocrites) Ayah 9
